UKDay6: Hidcote and a Photo Contest

Day 6 was more than just Hidcote, but there were so many garden pictures that I will have to post about the rest of Day 6 on another day.

At the end of this post there is bit of a photo contest. John and I disagree about the last two photos. He took both of them, but I think one is more interesting/beautiful than the other, he has the opposite view. I want you all to vote and let me know which one you like better. One may be technically better than the other, but all I am looking for is which one you like better, regardless of photographic merit.

I wish I didn’t have this look on my face, but the lighting is so good
at showing the topiary that I couldn’t resist poting it.

And now the photo contest

Do you like this one “A” better or…

Do you like this one “B” better?

I would have been so thrilled to have taken either photo, but B for me. Hidcote is another beautiful place and you had perfect weather.

    They're both beautiful, but I'm a sucker for a gorgeous close-up. B it is.

Actually, I don't care for either picture, although the ones before it are gorgeous! If I had to pick, I guess I would say A. I would probably prefer B if it was a vertical/portrait picture instead of horizontal/landscape one.

B for me. And I disagree with Laura about the orientation — I think the composition is perfect.

I am a rare vote for A – but that's mostly because I love blue and green together. And I actually prefer most of the other photographs – perhaps because I'm a sucker for paths, gates, avenues… oh, and wisteria.

I like 'A' – there's more to look at. All the pictures are glorious though. Now, my question would be Sissinghurst or Hidcote – if you could have one which would it be?

It's 'A' for me as well – it looks so natural. I love blue irises, and these look superb against the fern fronds, and the darker green foliage at the back, and just a little touch of pink in the foreground by way of a contrast.

I think I'd choose 'A', but both have their merits. As for the one above 'A', well ….

I'm loving ALL the photos from your trip, but if I have to choose, A gets the vote.

I like the previous photos best but would vote for A if I could cut it in half vertically and post them side by side. Beautiful post and photos.

Another lot of absolutely brilliant pictures. My favourite is the lilacy flowers hanging down. A name for them?

I vote for A, too. And I love what I believe is a Himalayan poppy in the earlier photos. All the photos are wonderful. I'd love to live in a place so beautfiful.

My vote is for B. It's not centered…and leads the eye to the image and the lovely background, all blurred out makes the image pop.

Also, the look on your face…what look? You look great!

Tough to choose but I like the stark contrast of the blurred background to the pop of color in B. I love irises, they're my favorite flowers.

I kept look at all the photos to choose a favorite and I just couldn't! I love the avenue of trees and also the wisteria. And the thistles. So jealous, it sounds like a fabulous trip.

I am really enjoying the pictures from your trip – drinking in the lush green. Summer in Southern California is so uniformly brown due to the heat.

I vote for photo A – I find it more dynamic, which appeals to me.

After an early surge for “B”, “A” wins by one vote. “A” happened to be the one John preferred. But since he took both photos, he would have been a winner either way.

Hayley: I would choose Sissinghurst. The garden seems more like an appendage of a life rather than a garden for its own sake. Plus the bookish interiors and the places for contemplation are more to my taste. Although Hidcote had some pretty amazing places.

Mystica: The mystery flower is wisteria.

Joan: That is indeed a Himalayan poppy. It was so beautiful I had to lift its head up so we could get a picture of it.
