Downton Abbey has received rave reviews in the UK, and I am VERY excited about South Riding, having recently read and rated it 5 stars. Plus it's an Andrew Davies production and he's amazing.

Hi Thomas…I love your posts and read your blog all the time. I especially liked today's post. I've been looking forward to the sequel to Upstairs, Downstairs for quite a while. Also can't wait to see Downton Abbey. I really enjoyed your posts about your trip to London and the meeting you had with Simon and all the other bloggers. My husband and I have lived in Northern Virginia for the past 42 years, and are now living in Winchester. Having lived near D.C. for so long, I'm familiar with lots that you write about. Anyway, just wanted to let you know how much I like your blog.

Thomas, you kill me. And I just got Disc 1 of Season 1 from the original series in the mail today from Netflix! I plan on watching the entire series before the new one starts in April.
And have you ever seen The Duchess of Duke Street? It ran on PBS a few years later and it was just as wonderful, IMHO. It starred Gemma Jones as a servant who starts her own hotel. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and watch it!

These episodes were on over christmas, I didn't catch them myself but my mum said they were very good.

The best christmas gift I have ever received was the entire series on DVD last year. I've watched through the entire set three times!

Laura: I own South Riding, I am going to have to read it before it is on.

Mary: I do like them. But this one is a special case. That Jean Marsh is in a remake of UD is really fantastic.
Niesa: Glad you came out of the shadows and commented. I should probably tone donwn my excitement. I don't want to over do it.
Tessa: I haven't seen Land Girls, must look into it.
Karen: That is a lot of UD between now and April. Have fun. I liked the H of E and The D of DS, but they were not as well written as UD.
DE Dilettante: They certainly have jazzed them up. I always wanted a version of UD with better production values.
Jessica: Unfortunately the bbciplayer doesn't work in the US. The radio does, but the BBC doesn't allow the videos to play in the US.

I hope you get to watch this soon. I watched it over Christmas when it was in the UK and really enjoyed it (although I must say that I prefer Downtown Abbey).
