Challenge completed?

When I chose my goal for the Goodreads reading challenge for 2018 I thought for sure that 120 books would more than cover the 100 books I need to read for the A Century of Books challenge. I appear to have been wrong.

Just today I finished up numbers 119 and 120 for the year, thus completing the Goodreads challenge. But I still have six books to read in 15 days in order to complete the ACOB challenge.

With the exception of the Calvino I’m expecting that these should go pretty quickly. In fact, I chose three of them (Toibin, Mawer, and Piercy) for that very reason. I had more challenging books available for those years but as December rolled around I thought I had better get serious about knocking this ACOB out.

It is interesting to see the years that I left until the end. Apparently the 1990s are something I unconsciously avoided. Years left: 1947 (Calvino), 1958 (Schuyler), 1981 (Stow), 1997 (Mawer), 1998 (Piercy/Wood), 1999 (Toibin).

The good thing is that next weekend could/should be a good reading time, not to mention Christmas week. And there will be some flying time involved which is always good for reading, so fingers crossed.

Wish me luck.

Good luck. I started A Century of Books as well, hoping to complete it in 4 years. I am not even close. I have only read 15. I do tend to read the hot new books, but I am not giving up. I will complete one more before the end of the year and will continue next year. Merry Christmas!!

I’ve massively struggled with the 90s with my multi-year ACOB and I think I’m going to just have to do re-reads as I keep looking at lists and thinking I don’t fancy anything on them. Go go go, you can do it, etc.

You’re way ahead of me! I didn’t even sign up for ACOB and I’m way behind on my Goodreads challenge — think I can finish 10 books in 14 days?

Best of luck to you. I’ll be looking forward to your final assessment of the ACOB project and even more so to the annual “Hoggies.” Merry Christmas to you all!

Good luck! 6 books should be pretty doable to the end of the year. Like Susan, I am looking forward to the Hoggies. I have my gown picked out and everything! Happy New Year Thomas!

Good luck!! I have one to read and 11 days to do it, so I am brazenly reading everything else at the moment – and will probably regret this at some point when I’m speed-reading on New Year’s Eve

I’m impressed! I think to hit my goal of 60 I’d need to get 8 books read in the next 11 days. It’s not in possible, but I’m not too stressed either. 52 is sort of my baseline.

I’m in envy since I am going to miss my own Goodreads goal and it’s considerably lower than yours. I thought retirement would bring me more time to read – it’s turned out the reverse!!!
