Lucy helps out in the office

On Thursday, as part of a conversation about dogs, my employer said “we should have a dog in the office”. I said “Okay, I will bring Lucy in tomorrow.” And I did. It was a  lot of fun to have her there, but there were enough anxieties associated with it that it wasn’t the unalloyed joy I was hoping for. Most office space leases do not allow animals so I was worried that building management would see her. And I was worried there may be someone who has issues with dogs. But Lucy was super well behaved and those that like dogs liked having her around. Still, I don’t think I will do it again.

Lucy loves to sit by the window and see what is going on outside. But the windows in our 3rd floor office are pretty high off the floor so I had to put her up on this high table so she could see out. She quite enjoyed it.

Lucy looks comfortable in your office. She is the cutest! A million years ago, when I worked for an investment firm in Boston, several of us would occasionally bring our dogs to work. It was a little difficult to stuff my Irish Wolfhound under my desk, but he seemed to like being there. They’re actually pretty collapsable.

Lucy looks so much at home it would be a shame if she never got to go again. Isn’t there a Take your Pet to Work Day organised or did I imagine that?

I keep begging to bring my cat to work. Every library needs a library cat!

Oh, she’s beautiful! She’s like a dog version of our cat, actually!

I work at a university, in the VPs office and it is a very strict environment but one day, when the VP was out, my boss came in with her dog, who just had physical therapy for an injured leg. The dog was smallish, about 20 lbs but grunted all the time. We took turns watching her when the boss had to go to a meeting, etc. It was hard!! She didn’t like us and wanted to know where her mama was at all times. I felt a little panicky even though I have kids and have dealt with restless toddlers in my lifetime. I kept thinking she was going to bark or that the VP would walk in with me holding this 20 lbs chunk. I was so exhausted and I only watched her for like 15 min.

She looks very properly behaved in the pictures. But that last picture…I’d love to know what she was studying so intently (and what she was thinking about). :)

Such a sweet, sweet girl. You can see the kind spirit in her eyes.

Beautiful pup. Leaving my (boxer) dog behind is one of the hardest parts of going to work every day. But the evening reunions are great!
