Remembrance of Augusts past

I may have time for another post before we leave on vacation, but in the meantime I am daydreaming about some of our past August trips. More than Italy, France, or any number of other places we have gone in August, the one that continually draws me back and makes me the most wistful for summer vacation is Maine. We haven’t been there since 2012 because of the house project and we are missing it. So much so that we have already booked our house for next summer.  For now, I will leave you with some of the more evocative photos from August 2011 and 2012. (You can also go back to those months in the archives see many more pictures and stories.)

As I have noted in a few places, my post in 2011 about adult coloring predates all the recent hullabaloo about coloring by a few years.

Somewhere I have long wanted to be on holiday. But we’re so disorganised that by the time we get around to thinking of renting a cottage, all the best places have been snaffled. Where do you head – is there a favourite spot?

You probably loved Maine so much because you could take Lucy with you. Such a beautiful place.

These pictures are so beautiful! Love especially the ones of beautiful Lucy. I’ve never been up the states but Maine is one of the places I’ve always wanted to visit. I’ll check out your past blogs about it!

Thanks for sharing – and making me wish I was back in Maine! We were in Camden, ME, in May and had a wonderful time in a harborside cottage. My land is inland, on a river, and there’s nothing on it but trees. We think about a small cabin, but that’s all the farther it’s gotten. I bought the land to preserve it, so I don’t want to disturb or displace any of the animals or birds. I’d love to have a tree house! There is something special about Maine and I miss the ocean.

Enjoy your white water rafting. Remember I’m here in Spokane with thousands of books if you have an emergency need for a little Brookner or a Persephone to tide you over. mrd

I want to do this one summer. We made it up to Cannon Beach in Oregon this summer and loved it. We spent a few days there and then went down to a rental house near Newport. I’ve decided that the northern climate is more my speed in the summer. :)

I prefer adult “dot to dot books” not colouring.

I have always wanted to visit Maine (your pictures certainly make my yearning to visit stronger).

Lucy is a beautiful girl. Quite noble.
