Doesn't everyone smell their books? Are we weird?

That was a very interesring little video, though I have to say I like the new book smell better than the used one. Fresh ink, crisp new paper. Mmmm.

I have a daughter who can tell you where I purchased a book based on its smell…I love to smell my books, but I've been teasing her about being a little freakish. ;)

“Grassy notes with a tang of acids and a note of vanilla over an underlying mustiness”… This is great!
A friend of mine recently boasted that she'd finally found the right mix of fragrances to make her own book-scented perfume.
Do you suppose that's likely to be alluring to bibliophiles?

Oh, that was wonderful. I've always loved the smell of books- new, fresh ink and brand-new paper is just as intoxicating as the old-book smell. I've had just the scent of a book's pages remind me of another book that smelled the same- they had no other relation!

Sohia: I like new and used smells. And of course there are variations in smell even among new books.

Susan: I try to do it when no one is looking.

CW: There is actually a anti-perfume, perfumier in Brooklyn who makes a wonderful library scent. I blogged about it a while back.

Jeane: And not only do they remind me of other books, but of other periods of my life as well. Sometimes I don't even know what I am remembering, just a feeling.

As Louise Erdrich says on her blog. She doesn't like the Kindle because you can't lick it the way you can lick a book ….!
