Last Weekend

Last weekend we had a holiday open house for friends and neighbors. It was the first chance since we moved in in May that we have been able to share some hospitality. The party got a little too busy for pictures, but we did manage to document some of the prep.

That’s right, I baked all of this.

The chocolate sour cream Bundt cake looks appropriately festive.

That all looks so delicious and beautiful! I threw a party recently as well, but the food was mostly just cookies etc.

Gorgeous! What are the dark brown things below the lovely snowy-looking bundt cake? And in the last picture, the cracker-type things with the green & orange on top? I am hungry now.

Ash: I like to bake more than anything so I would have been happy just putting sweet stuff on the table. But figured I needed to give our guests something savory.

Christy: The dark things are these delicious chewy brownie bars with crushed up candy canes and chocolate chips. Here is the recipe http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Chocolate-Peppermint-Bar-Cookies-236672

Mystica: Yes, I love to bake.

Georgia: Thanks. Everything turned out better than expected.

Diane: They did appreciate it. I think everyone who came really enjoyed themselves.

Margaret: We cheated and took Lucy to doggie daycare during the party. It would have been mayhem otherwise.

Nadia: It was. And I am glad that it was last week so I can relax for the rest of the holidays.

Everything looks so festive. What a great spread! I love that everything is out for the taking. Allows the host to enjoy the party as well. BTW, the house is looking great.

Verity: I know, I love to bake, but I have no will power, so I can't do it as much as you do.

Sakura: The bundt cake was good, but the batter was even better.

Margaret: I had quite a time convincing John it was the right thing to do. And of course our first little guest, a four-year old said “where's Lucy?”.

Ti: I made sure there was nothing for me to do during the party but greet guests.

Kerry: Well B'more isn't so far away.

Christy: Just make sure you underbake them a little. They are better that way.

Ooooh . . . so beautiful! Everything! Goodness . . . I love to bake, but my efforts never turn out as eye-savoury as all of this! You have lucky friends and neighbours. :)
