I have gotten way behind in writing about recent book adventures, so all this week I will be posting about some of fun things I have picked up in the last couple of weeks.
I couldn’t help but purchase a few vintage Penguin titles when I saw the range of them available at Lloyd’s of Kew. They are in quite good condition. I just hope they stand up to one more reading, as I am intent on reading these copies. I will have to be extra careful.
I generally like Huxley’s work and have never heard of these titles so it seemed like a good purchase. And as for The Thin Man, I don’t read much mystery or crime fiction but I couldn’t resist this fantastic standard Penguin green.
Perhaps even more fantastic is this really nice copy of The Village by Marghanita Laski. I haven’t read any of her work but bought two reissues at Persephone earlier that week.
I thought I would also show you a few more photos of Lloyd’s of Kew. We did not take these pictures, they are actually postcards on sale at the shop.

I am going to look for these in Colombo. I am very very sure that my dusty musty bookshop there would have some of these gems. The library here is too clean and immaculate for these older books!

JEALOUS of your The Village. I love that dustjacket! Despite living in London for 24 years (ie. my entire life) I have never made it to Kew. Living somewhere else has really made me aware of how little I took advantage of London when I lived there. Not again! I will be making a beeline for this bookshop when I return to my native city next year!

Like Rachel I am jealous of your Laski find! I also have not made it to Kew (which I think I have already mentioned to you).
I adore the book tree and the Penguins. I think it may be quite dangerous if I do make it to that shop.

Mystica: You might be able to find some great old books if your store is full of dusty musty books.
Rachel: It is easy to take one's backyard for granted. You certainly aren't letting moss grow in your new location.
Lifetime: It is a lot like that!
Harriet: We pack very light in two large suitcases so we had plenty of room. Plus, I carried on about 50 of the Penguins which are pretty small and light.
Claire: The Laski really was a find. My intent on this trip was to find some Persephone authors. No Whipple, but I did find this Laski.
