Yesterday while I was in the process of scanning a postcard of this painting for today’s post, I was browsing the blogroll on ArchitectDesign’s blog when I noticed this very same image on a thumbnail for the blog The Corinthian Column. Great minds think alike. Enjoy.
Doesn’t he look like he skated out of an Anthony Trollope novel?

Sir Henry Raeburn (Scottish, 1756-1823)
Hi Thomas – I like your recent posts – and really I DO TOO wonder who could possibly fall for those nice and tragic letters from abroad. As for your rocks post, I posted something similar earlier that I borrowed also from another blog. It might be part of that Louvre collection belonging to the distinguished French gentleman of the many names which escape me right now but you would find it on my blog. Also I have an invitation for you on my site if you want to check it out! Cheers!

Your image of this picture seems to do it more justice than mine. In reality it's a tiny picture, but Raeburn's talent is clearly evident. Thanks for the mention.
