One year ago today we hopped on a BA flight out of Heathrow and landed in Nairobi, Kenya for an amazing week of Safari. We are lucky to get to travel a fair amount but nothing will ever compare to our week in Kenya.

Oh, this makes me sigh wistfully. South Africa was the best holiday I've ever had. Your photos remind me of Kruger National Park. I became an 'animal person' that week.

Wow. I'd love to go on safari in Kenya. My aunt was telling me recently about her similar journey and a giraffe popping its head over the outdoors shower to say hello.

Let me enthuse for a moment – isn't it amazing!!! Beautiful pictures, I am very jealous of your big cat sightings, we saw a cheetah but all our lions were very far away, although we saw one of them dragging a carcass through binoculars. So want to go to the other side of the border sometime.

Overdue: It would be hard to not be an animal person after getting to see these creatures in the wild.
Paperback: I think the giraffe were my favorite. We saw lots of them but none over the shower. That would have been amazing.
Lezlie: It is hard to take a bad picture in Kenya.
Simon S: It won't be anytime soon, but I think our next Safari will probably Botswana and/or Tanzania.
JoAnn: I am one of those people that doesn't believe in the phrase “the trip of lifetime”. I figure with the right planning and priority setting you can always go back. But Kenya really did feel like the trip of a lifetime. So unique and awesome.
Mrs B: It is worth the effort and expense that is for sure. I say put it on your calendar and then figure out what you need to do to reach your goal. I am a firm believer in planning waaay ahead. The early, focused, well organized bird gets the worm.

Mary: The Samburu tribe that we met certainly do photograph well don't they?
Jodie: We were quite lucky and managed to see all the big cats (even the illusive leopards). And there were even moments when I was close enough to reach out of the vehicle and touch a cheetah–which of course I did't. That would have caused some trouble for sure. The picture of the lions was late afternoon as they were waking up from their afternoon nap. There were 13 females and youngsters in total. The kids woke up first playing around with each other and pestering the teens and the adults. Eventually after much stretching and overall cuteness they all made their way down to the river for a drink.

Vintage: You know I tried to read Out of Africa, The Flame Trees of Thika, and West with the Night before and after Kenya. I wasn't able to sustain my interest in any of them. I know they are all fantastic books and that it must have just been my mood. They are still in the TBR pile.

Wow I am majorly jealous of your leopard pictures, not a sniff of a leopard for us. I notice a lack of zebras though in all your pics though – were they not cool enough for you ;)

Jodie: Oddly enough I did find the zebra a bit boring. I think they are too much like horses and kind of get lost in the exotic shuffle.
