This Cannot Arrive Soon Enough

I just got an email today from Penguin UK noting that this incredible box of 100 postcards is finally available. Since Penguin UK won’t let me order off of their site, I headed right on over to The Book Depository to order mine. And, let me tell you, it can’t arrive soon enough. Hmm, I could get on a plane at 5:00 tonight, arrive at Heathrow by 6:00 am tomorrow head into London to buy the “book” and get back to Heathrow in time to get the 4:00 plane home.  Let’s see, that fare right now would be $2,046, plus the cost of the Heathrow Express, plus the cost of the book…or maybe I could just pay $19.95 and wait for my delivery from The Book Depository.

That is awesome. I wish you could curate your own collection..I guess you coudl rip the covers off all your favorite books, the way you steam labels off good bottles of wine, but that would be sacreligous.

Haha. This post amused me but mainly because I completely understand. I have gone to crazy lengths (crazier in my imagination) to get my hands on a book or book-themed item.

I covet this so much. I entered a competition for them today. I desperately want the purple A Room of One's Own postcard so that I can frame it.

When you get cool boxes of postcard like this, do you send them to people? I'm pretty sure I'd just hoard them all to myself.

I would keep them and use as bookmarks. Looking forward to your post in which you show us some of your favourites!

I am so envious, I REALLY want these, but can't justify them at all.

Haha, I can relate. In fact I kind of hope that at some point in my life it will be within my means to make such a trip, just for the sheer excitement – highly unlikely, but a fun thought.

Meanwhile, I'll have to check this treasure trove out!

    Art: Rip covers off books…medic!

Paperback Reader: I hope you win them.

Lorin: I send lots of postcards when I travel, but these postcards will not get sent to anyone.

Claire: I will definitely be sharing some of my favorites on my blog.

Verity: Well if I have to start justifying my book-related actions I will need some deep therapy.

Tuulenhaiven: At 6'2″ in height, the thought of flying a total of 16
hours on two back to back flights is just short of hell in my book. Now, dropping everything and traveling at the drop of the hat, that is something I could aspire to. The only problem is that I plan everything so far in advance there is little room for such a spontaneous trip. I did ask everyone at work the other day if they could get on a plane that night and go somewhere where would it be. I got one Rome, one Munich, one Hawaii, one Mongolia, and a few that couldn't come up with anything. Theyu are the ones who depress me. How can you not think of somewhere you want to go? Are you dead?

If I could bring it back to you I would–I actually have space in my luggage. But by the time I got it from UK back into US postal system, Book Depository will have come through for you I'm sure.

Margaret: Thanks for the offer. I am enjoying your online travelogue. Next to reading and food and classical music, travel is one of my favorite things in life. Even vicarious travel.

Rose City: The holidays are coming, put it on your wishlist…

Simon: I would think you would be able to find it locally. Book Depository seems to have them–at least they took my money…
