UKDay4: Great Dixter

After handing over control of the car to John, I began to enjoy myself in earnest. After a rather short and pretty drive from Sissinhurst we found overselves on the threshhold of Great Dixter, the amazing house and garden of garden god Christopher Lloyd. As you will see in the pictures the gardens are absolutely magical. As much as I enjoyed Sissinghurst the day before, there was something especially magical about Great Dixter. The house looked amazingly cozy as well, but it didn’t open until 2:00 and we wanted to be on our way to Rye by then.

Have been enjoying your pictures. Those topiary hedges have some really interesting shapes- the ones in the middle, square on bottom with curvy shapes on top, what are they supposed to be?

I didn't even know Great Dixter existed! I am going to have some great days out this summer thanks to you – Rye is on my list as well now!

Beautiful! Don't think I've been (I was dragged everywhere as a child, so I might have been) but now I want to.

I've always wanted to go here because of the squirrel topiary. So jealous! Your photos are absolutely lovely.

Jeane: I think they are squirrels.

Rachel: Just make sure you try and see Rye after 5:00 pm when the tour buses leave. It takes on a totally different feel. And Lamb House is only open for four hours, two days a week.

Simon: Normally I would sit and read a book while John snaps pictures, but I found it too compelling to sit and read.

    Jill: Me too!

Ski: I want to see a topiary of my dog.

Squirrels! I had to look again but yes, the shape is of squirrels atop square posts. How curious!
