The Great British Bake Off

Oh Rob.
Many of you across the pond have been watching the Great British Bake Off. Thanks to my good friend Ron who forwarded me YouTube links to the first episode of the new season I have finally been able to see what all the fuss is about.
First, I love to bake and second I love good food TV. Not the baloney Gordon Ramsay screaming kind, but the kind that shows talented people being talented in the kitchen. I love the GBBO, but as much as I love to bake, I have zero interest in being in such a competition.
The show is co-hosted by Sue Perkins who is one of the funniest women on the planet. I would love to hang out with her.
Sue Perkins (right) and some other woman.
But really, even if the show were boring watching the dishy Rob bake is worth the price of admission. One thing these pictures don’t convey is just how pretty his eyes are. They are kind of a light brown–rather luminescent, and well, more than a little dreamy.  [Update: Now that I have watched another episode his eyes look a little green, maybe they are hazel. Either way…sigh.]

Ahh, food competition with English accents?! My productivity plummets to zero.

Very fun video, and Rob DOES have great eyes, but bad grammar, and moreover, chose black licorice for his cupcakes. Yuck, worse than raisins….

This has finished here in the UK now, but for quite a few weeks it was my favourite thing on TV. The other woman is Mel (not sure of her surname) who used to be the other half of a comedy duo with Sue Perkins. I'm not certain but I believe they're a couple and have been for years.

Oh Thomas, I'm with Aarti…but it's a holiday here today so what do I care! Well-timed clip actually as my plan for today is to bake the Primrose Bakery carrot cake cupcakes.

Sue Perkins is a scream. If you want more funny, watch the YouTube episodes of The Supersizers Go…. in which she and Giles Coren dress and eat and whinge their way through Elizabethan Restoration, Regency, Victorian, Edwardian times.
You can follow Sue on Twitter, if you're into that sort of thing…but not quite the same as hanging out with her.
Rob is indeed quite the dish.

Obviously I love this programme – I watched the last series avidly too, but this series (while having worse bakers, on the whole) was even more enjoyable – and certainly more popular.

Rob was hilarious – watch out for his many disasters.

And Janet is known as MurderEyes in my house.

(You were joking about 'other woman', weren't you?)

Aarti: I would have space out the episodes a bit if I had known that only three are available on YouTube.

Jill: The licorice thing sounded disgusting. I hate that flavor.

Kathleen: Floppy hair and pretty eyes. What's not to love.

Cath: It is so interesting to watch. Even the people who don't do well are quite clever.

Darlene: It certainly made me want to get in the kitchen.

Margaret: I love that show. And Giles Coren, talk about handsome.

Simon: You are so right about Janet and her murder eyes. Well I was joking about the “other woman” but I was also serious because I didn't know who she was. Now Sue Perkins I know. And I did think the “other woman” was humorous as well, but again I didn't know her from Adam.

Thomas you are too funny! I LOVED this series. It's so British! I have the cook book and it's great. You should buy it!

Mel and Sue used to have their own chat show many moons ago. Mel is married with babies so they aren't a couple but I have always wanted them to be!

Mel&Sue are one component in my head! I can't imagine anybody knowing one without knowing the other… they've been presenting things together in the UK all my life.
