I have been enjoying the remake of Upstairs, Downstairs immensely. I found episode two to be particularly emotional. I loved the original series. I was fascinated and intrigued by it, but never really moved. I am disappointed though that the three episodes are only an hour each. Only one more to go and then it is over.
I think South Riding is coming in May. Should I read the book first?
And because I haven’t had much to blog about recently, I thought I would just leave you with this picture of actor Neil Jackson who plays the chauffeur Harry Spargo in Upstairs, Downstairs.
This show has been one of the best Masterpieces I have enjoyed this year. I never did see any of the original, but I'm definitely going to soon. The shows also fit in well with the Maisie Dobbs books that I have read this year: servants and employers, London in the '30s, pre-World War II, etc. Mr. Jackson is a beautiful man!

This week's episode was just great, but his storyline was so disturbing! It must have been such a scary time to be alive.

I feared this new Upstairs, Downstairs might not be as good as the old one. But it is good in its own right and doesn’t rely on the popularity of the old one to get by. I could do without the monkey sitting on the breakfast table, though. Ick. I wish I hadn’t missed the first episode. With my slow dial-up modem I cannot watch it online. Your picture of Neil Jackson is much more flattering to him than the one on the Masterpiece website. (The website, by the way, is riddled with typography and style blunders. For a network that used to be “educational television,” I expect better!)

One hour goes by way too quickly doesn't it. We're really enjoying Upstairs, Downstairs in our house too.
Definitely read South Riding before the show comes out if you can, Thomas! I've seen the television program and while still wonderful, they leave out quite a bit.

I second the suggestion that you should read South Riding. I am just about halfway through, and I am loving it!

Well, you might not be a photographer, but you still have a good eye for pictures! ;)
I've never seen any Upstairs, Downstairs, but it sounds like something I would like.
