Must. Give. Away. These. Books.

I found three of these four books yesterday at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School Used Book Sale. This was the first time I have been to the annual sale and I was quite happy as you can see in this other post. I have copies of each of these but given the rock bottom prices ($2 a piece) I couldn’t pass up buying them. Especially since I know it is hard for many of you to find them.

So, I am giving them away.

Here are the rules:

  1. Simon T. gets first dibs at one of those Provincial Lady books. I know it is one of his favorite books and he may not have this edition. Simon: The multi-colored one has a dustjacket, the lavender one does not. Oddly enough, the one with the DJ is white not lavender. If Simon decides he doesn’t need another copy, I will give it away to someone else.
  2. Sign up for the random drawing by making a comment on this post letting me know which one you most want and a second choice.
  3. I will ship anywhere in the world except for the UK. These titles are too easily available there.
  4. Deadline to sign up is Monday, April 4, 2011.

My first Pym would make my day. Many thanks for your generosity. I hope as I make my way further through my Reader that there is a post of the lovelies you are keeping for yourself.

I've already read every novel of Barbara Pym and I have the toast crumbs to prove it. I would love a copy of Provincial Lady or Someone at a Distance. I have relatives in Chevy Chase, maybe I need to get over there and support their high school, too!

Oh wow, thanks so much for first dibs! I would love the multi-coloured DoPL, if that's ok? I've never seen that edition on this side of the pond, and I do love it… I'm something of a collector of various editions, and would love this. Thanks so much!

What a ridiculously generous giveaway! It's so kind of you to benefit those of us bloggers whose local book sales are not quite as rich with gems as yours!

I'd love to be considered for the Whipple, but my second choice would still make me equally glad (Diary of a Provincial Lady).

It is so strange that I've never come across these books in Karachi. Maybe I should look harder.
Haven't read any of these authors so I don't know what to choose. I have heard of Dorothy Whipple so she'll be my first choice.

My first choice would be Crampton Hodnet, because every other member of my online reading group has been raving about Barbara Pym. Second choice would be Diary of a Provincial Lady. Thanks for having this giveaway.

Wow, thanks for such a generous giveaway! What joy it must be to find these gems in a high school used book sales, and at such rock bottom prices too! WOuld love to add a second Pym to my Some Tame Gazelle (which by the way, also happened to be compliments from your generous giveaway during the Virago week this earlier year). I'd love a chance to read Barbara Pym's book. Our library doesn't have a single copy of her work and I want to read her. The Whipple would be my second choice, none of those in the library either. Thank you for entering me.

I am green with envy that you find Persephone books in secondhand shops and sales; I can't even get them new in bookshops. I would love to be included in this delightful book lotto. Thank you for your generosity Thomas.
