And you thought Persephone Reading Week was over…

I guess it doesn’t end for me until midnight Eastern Daylight Time. How absolutely, positively serendipitous that on the last day of PRW I actually found a Persephone Classic in a used bookstore here in DC.  And it was a Whipple to boot. And one that I don’t already have! I mean hell-o, what a find. And it was only THREE DOLLARS. But of course now I am wondering who owned it. Someone in DC is reading Whipple. I doubt it is one of my fellow DC book bloggers, they would never give it away, they would still be clutching it to their bosom vowing to never let go of it…

Best part is I got it at Books for America. A charity shop. yay.

You won't believe this, but I found They Knew Mr Knight in a charity shop this week – and walked away. Sorely tempted, because it's one of DW's best – easily as good as Someone At A Distance – but I have already read it, and I know it's in the library, and I'm trying to cure myself of acquisitiveness for the sake of it. On the other hand, if it's still there tomorrow … that might be a Sign, don't you think?

Oh my goodness, Thomas, how serendipitous indeed! I loved that edition, with its beautiful cover, and love the novel itself.

I found two secondhand Persephones yesterday (with Verity's help) and was £4 all in (The Runaway was an absolute steal, in fact it was probably a mistake that I didn't correct. Don't worry, it wasn't a charity shop).

Too funny! You are right about DC bloggers not letting loose a Whipple either. Have to love Books for America too. They help out DC Public Schools all the time too. Shop right off P Street, right?

Interesting because I picked up a brand new Persephone in an Oxfam bookstore. Maybe it is Persephone donating the books? I loved this book when I read it last year.

What a find! Hopefully I will stumble upon a Persephone in a thrift / charity shop. Actually any shop where I don't have to pay shipping would be fabulous. Persephones aren't around too much in Northeast Georgia bookshops.

Mary: It would be a sign, yes.

Paperback Reader: It is a striking cover.

Smitonius and Sonata: I think I am partial to the grey ones.

Frances: Yes, the shop right off of P. I have found so many great things there. You'll see the whole stack that I bought today on my blog tomorrow.

Vintage Reading: Since Persephone's are all but unheard of here in the US, it seemed really crazy to find one in a second hand shop.

Amanda: I'm not sure any place in the US could be considered Persephone country.

A $3 Persephone! In a charity shop! I'm insanely jealous. My libraries here don't even stock them.

You are too lucky! I hope someone in my town gets to read a few Persephones that they come to hate so that they can donate it to the thrift stores and I can have them!

What marvelous serendipity! Someone At a Distance is supposed to be brilliant so I look forward to hearing your views! Congrats on winning the Persephone Reading Week 'best post' btw – your brilliant letter to Persephone regarding Whipple definitely deserved it :)

Oh, what a great find! I seem unable to find Persephone books in AMERICA, in general, and you find one in a used store for $3! I'm jealous :-)

Verity: It was lots of fun.

Kiss a Cloud: Now what are the chances they would hate them…

Miranda: I had no idea I won until you told me. How exciting.

Aarti: I swear you just won a Persephone on someone's blog. I can't remember which one. They were giving away two books and you won one of them.
